Double Bay
A family owned lodge on the private Hanson Island, offering comfortable accommodation and home cooked meals. This is a hands on experience, as guests are provided with a boat and fuel for their own fishing experience. Good salmon fishing, a chance of halibut, and amazing wildlife viewing opportunities.
Access is via Vancouver and Port Hardy with a taxi to Telegraph Cove and a water taxi to the lodge.
Meal times are arranged to suit the fishing, which is tide affected. We enjoyed good chinook fishing with fish to 30 pounds plus and interesting coho to 12 pounds on the fly. Season is from June to late August. The chinook are around in numbers up to late July then the coho and sockeye arrive in huge numbers through August. These offer the best light spinning and fly fishing opportunities. Halibut are caught right through the season.
Wildlife
We had humpback whales within 30 yards of the boat, Pacific white sided dolphins by the hundred within yards from our boat, killer whales an arm’s length away and bald eagle taking fish almost from our hands! Black and grizzly bears are a guaranteed sight and cultural/wildlife excursions offer great value with pick up from the lodge dock.
